The tourist municipalities of the Canary Islands take stock of their management in Mogán and announce their adherence to Exceltur's 'Turismo que Suma' initiative.
The Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) has set progress in sustainability, digitalisation and improving the quality of employment in the tourism sector as its priorities for 2026.
This was announced during its General Assembly held in Mogán, where representatives from the fourteen main destinations in the archipelago took stock of the actions carried out throughout the year.
Among the main milestones, the AMTC highlighted the completion of 50% of the 'Decarbonisation at destination. I am Canary Green' project, promoted in conjunction with Telefónica.
Tourism Intelligence System
The initiative has enabled the development of a Tourism Intelligence System, the training of 130 people in sustainability, and the implementation of awareness-raising actions that have reached more than 390 companies.
The meeting also addressed the regulatory, social and environmental challenges facing the sector, with contributions to various laws related to tourism and holiday accommodation, as well as the need to improve beach safety and advance sustainable mobility.
The mayors agreed that the future of tourism lies in adapting to climate change, better managing tourist flows and improving the quality of employment.
The AMTC also announced its participation in Exceltur's 'Turismo que Suma' initiative and its joint presence at Fitur 2026, with the aim of promoting a responsible, inclusive and regenerative tourism model and strengthening institutional cooperation between the tourist municipalities of the Canary Islands.
